The Role of a Life Coach
What Life Coaches DO:
Life Coaches help clients assess their current life situations and primarily focus on helping the client move forward in their specific areas and issues of concern.
Sometimes, Life Coaches use the client's past as part of the framework of establishing how best to move forward. Life Coaches use the client’s story as a catalyst to help guide the client onward and forward from where they currently are to where they would like to be.
Life Coaches can offer help to individuals who are functioning well in many aspects of their lives, but who feel “stuck” or uncertain in other areas.
Life Coaches can offer guidance in the forms of motivation and support to help the client address issues they are facing.
Life Coaches are first and foremost empathetic listeners. This skill brings clarity, perspective, and insight into areas of the client's life that have become challenging or overwhelming. The support of a Life Coach can help the client make clearer decisions as they gain traction and move forward into their future.
What Life Coaches DO NOT do:
Life Coaches do not delve into a client’s past to find the detailed psychological origin of the client’s issues using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, EMDR, etc.
Life Coaches cannot give a professional, medical, or psychological diagnosis, nor are they able to prescribe medications or give professional advice on medications, dosages, side effects, etc. Those types of issues would need to be addressed by a licensed psychological or medical practitioner.
Life Coaches do not function as professionals in situations of in-patient hospitalizations, crisis interventions, or psychological testing.
Life Coaches are not state certified or state regulated and therefore, cannot accept insurance. Services are private pay only.
